Exciting Things Are Happening At Selected Supplies Mozambique
Selected Supplies is a well-known truck parts and accessories supplier within transports circles since opening in Beira and Harare in 2005. The company has steadily grown over the years and expanded operations to Zambia as well and now have 9 branches across 3 countries.
Since joining Selected Supplies Mozambique from their Zambian operations in 2023 new Country General Manager, Mr. Ruan Cowley, together with his management team has brought many exciting changes to the Mozambique business. These changes range from the introduction of new categories such as the sale and repair of OTR (off the road) tyres for agricultural and mining applications to new strategic partnerships with suppliers like Saudi lubricants giant, Petromin. The company also opened a new 600m² branch in the Topuito Industrial Park in Moma where the company supplies one of their strategic mining clients and various contractors within the area. Business development manager, Mr. Atalivio Couto, who has been with the company for 17 Years feels the changes is helping the business evolve and has placed Selected Supplies in a good position to be the market leader for new trucks, spares and accessories within the Mozambique and the other countries the group operates in.
All the above factors culminated in the Mozambican entity growing by over 35% in 2023 has helped Selected Supplies be awarded the “2023 Distributor of the year for the Africa Region” by Unipower Tyre Corporation, one of China’s biggest tyre exporters, having sold more than 21,500 tyres in Mozambique in 2023.
The new truck sales division for the group has also shown constant growth over the past couple of years resulting in Selected Supplies Mozambique being awarded “2023 Shacman Outstanding Truck Dealer of the Year” for Mozambique.
According to Mr Cowley the reason behind the success of 2023 is quite simple: “It’s about alignment and a drive to be the best. We have been able to build a culture of performance where every team member actively contributes to common goals and the overall success of the business in an effort to be the best and that can be seen in the 2023 results and what we have planned for 2024. I am extremely proud of the team and what we have been able to achieve in a short space of time and I’m very excited what the future holds for our business”.
2024 promises to be a big year for the company with plans to open a new truck workshop in Beira as well as expanding their Matola operation in size and scope by investing into a new tyre retreading plant. The Beira retreading facility managed to retread over 6,500 tyres last year helping to minimize that impact of the transportation industry on the environment by giving some tyres a second life. Additionally, Selected Supplies helped customers safely recycle or dispose of 825,000 liters of waste lubricants in 2023 and plans to invest in more equipment to be able to increase this volume.
The new truck workshop in Beira will officially open on 15th of April to the public where all truck brands will be welcomed for services and repairs. Mr. Couto explains “the workshop will improve the aftersales support capabilities of the business to our customers that procure Shacman and FAW trucks from us. It’s the logical next step for us as a business as we look to grow our truck sales division”. The workshop team will also be able to support breakdowns within the Sofala province with the plan to expand the workshop model to other branches within the group.
In closing, Mr. Cowley said “We would like to thank all our customers for their valued support as we look to build on 2023 and make 2024 another great year.”
