Size: For a guy who is used to carrying a light that is way bigger, the Microstream feels like nothing at all. A flashlight is an essential tool that every person should carry with them. On the topic of enthusiast appeal, I think that it would be cool if SL made like one light designed for that market, kind of like how Spyderco (at least originally) marketed the Native as a big box store knife. What fun! First HawkMeyer shortcut. The Microstream is totally obliterated by its competition in terms of output, but beyond that it also doesnât have different modes like most lights today: itâs either on at 28 or itâs off. Log in or register to post comments . Iâve never used this feature, but it is unobtrusive, and I like to think that extra fold of steel gives the clip some added durability. So despite it not working ideally for me, I think the Streamlight Microstream is a fantastic little light. The USB port hides behind the bezel, with no rubber cap to lose. The smoother texture may make this light more appealing to those on the dressier side of life. Be sure to visit the Liberty First Foundation on Facebook!. or so â not a world-shattering difference by any means. Offline . Keep that in mind as you read this review of the Streamlight MicroStream and the Rogers Rail Lite which, combined, form an acceptable system for a mounted light on your home defense handgun. You can attach the removable clip to your cap for hands-free operation or hold it using the nylon holster. Filed Under: Flashlight Reviews, Misc. You sum it it up best when you say that it’s “humble, yet dignified in the way it accomplishes its simple task well.” That humble dignity is what sells me on the Microstream. (Again, I wish the enthusiast companies could get that feature squared away so I wouldn’t have to make the tradeoff! They are meant to be stiff because the momentary-on is the primary function. The Microstream has a by-the-books Type II anodization job. The review totally pegs the spirit of the Microstream. OK, I do find a little fault. December 6, 2011. Thanks for watching!! Type II MIL-SPEC abrasion and corrosion-resistant anodized aircraft aluminum construction with unbreakable, scratch-resistant polycarbonate lens. Meaning with a light of similar capability you get almost twice the run time. lumens. The beam pattern isnât all that it could be, though: a lot of artifacts and rings. I lost my old 28 lumen Microstream during ordinary activities. There are only two modes: ON and OFF. The biggest reason for replacement is not a durability issue but rather losing it. It is in the fields of output and runtime that we really see the difference between the Microstream and current, higher-priced enthusiast products. A couple of my non-negotiables are varying modes and a AA battery which obviously this light lacks. You might take a look at the Nitecore Tube in this kind of category. I think the Microstream and the Fenix E05 excel equally as little holiday gifts — perfect stocking stuffers for those of us who will have stockings to stuff. Gear Tagged With: AAA. I would really appreciate some sort of protection for the tail switch, though I realize that’s difficult to execute well on such a small, AAA-powered light. Here is a review of some of the best streamlight flashlight, together with their features and functions. And not only “no” but the switch sticks out like a sore thumb. Facebook. It’s probably worth having a light or two that will take advantage of them. I own strictly better flashlights than this and still like to carry the Microstream every once and while. While I prefer the ergonomics of a 2x AAA penlight, the Microstream is in almost every way superior. Lots of little lights afford that ability in the same size and price categories off at least some flexibility there (the Olight IT3 being a really good example). Review - Streamlight Microstream USB This was sent to me by Streamlight for review and I appreciate it. The Microstream, with as small and slim as it is, carries just about perfectly clipped to my pocket. The Streamlight MicroStream 66318 is one of best EDC pocket flashlights on there in the market. It is compact, extremely durable and user-friendly for easy one-hand operation. Note to readers: Please click the share buttons above or below. I guess I want my cake and eat it, too: I’d like to be able to get the light to constant on a little easier, but I also appreciate the ability to use momentary without worry about over-clicking. That being said, I find it remarkable that in a world in which things like the S1 Baton or the L10C (or, my personal favorite, the Peak Eiger) exist, there is still merit in a product like the Microstream. I like keeping everything standardized on AA. Furthermore, in their effort to manufacture these things as cheaply as possible (while still charging north of $30), the lack of quality shows throughout the product. While LED technology has long since moved on, Streamlight has steadily made minor output upgrades to the Microstream over the years. It is really, really hard to find very much fault with the form factor of the Streamlight Microstream. It is simple, functional, and affordable, and I recommend it. Instagram hawkmeyer_outdoors. You could throw this into the lightest of ultralight backpacks and not notice it. I know this is a hard sell for enthusiasts, but if youâre looking for something simple to tide you over between flashier (ha ha) purchases, the Microstream is worth a look. Shortly after giving a friend my Streamlight Stylus Pro, I realized that I was missing an important part of my EDC, a not-so-bright light that I can just pull out fast for inspection purposes. And the price point makes it really approachable. At SHOT Show 2020, we got our hands on the latest every-day carry flashlight from Streamlight: the MacroStream USB.This light is the big brother to the popular MicroStream USB, and offers a bigger aluminum body, higher-capacity battery, and increased lumen output. After the show, we were excited to try out this flashlight in the real world, so we requested a sample from Streamlight. A lot of that merit comes from its agreeable price: while there are a lot of awesome lights to be had at the $30 â 50 range, there isnât any light that I know of that costs as little as the Microstream, and that is as good. There is nothing to remember, no expecting one power setting and getting another, no fumbling to dim or brighten the light. Streamlight seems to be doing rolling upgrades to their staple lights… I wouldn’t say they’re making the outputs legitimately competitive with the enthusiast market, but at least somewhat addressing one of their big Achilles’ heels (the other is regulation). For me personally, it means one more type of battery I have to purchase and maintain. In my experience the regulation is decent too. It’s good to know that SL, even if they’re not participating in the same market as the enthusiast brands, remains committed to upgrades and enhancements. That being said, I find it remarkable that in a world in which things like the S1 Baton or the L10C (or, my personal favorite, the Peak Eiger) exist, there is still merit in a product like the Microstream. That sort of makes sense on a large dedicated tactical light (a lot of cops carry SLs if they don’t want to spring for a Surefire). You’re right: it is an elegant solution to a problem most other companies seem to address with head-straps and other goofy paraphernalia. I like the ability to use more or less light as the situation dictates. It held the light tightly in the pocket, but let it slip out easily when desired. If you prefer to carry your lights loose, however, I think youâll find the Microstream to be a well-behaved passenger. Better, because it has a special use that works GREAT. The Foursevens Preon 2 can throw out 84, the Olight i3 gives you 80, the L3 Illumination L10C; the recently-released Olight S1 Baton goes all the way up to 500 lumens.
